Of the natural forces affecting people and their environment, the sun is the most predictably dynamic. It influences our site planning, landscaping, building forms, materials, energy systems and conservation.
With the growing interest in solar energy and energy conservation, architects, engineers, and designers will be responding more to the sun. This requires an understanding of the daily and seasonal changes in the sun's position, as defined by the angles it forms with respect to the earth's surface.
Existing methods for determining these angles are complex and difficult to use in the design process. Sun Angles For Design presents a new design aid which shows sun angle data in an intuitively understandable and easily usable form. Charts simulate the sun's motion across the sky and show its position for any time of day and any day of the year.
Architectural applications of the charts include shadow casting, shadow mapping, and solar site analysis. They can also be employed to evaluate sun control devices such as windows, horizontal overhangs, skylights, louver overhangs, and horizontal overhangs with vertical fins.

"A valuable tool for designers of active and passive solar heating systems." POPULAR SCIENCE
"This book is a useful tool, showing sun angle data via easily read charts which simulate the sun's position across the sky for any time of day, and any day of the year. A general technique is developed which enables the designer to evaluate any sun control device. This book will be extremely helpful to anyone who is designing active or passive systems." "These charts are an easy-to-use design tool, and the book also explains solar site analysis and discusses the relationship of sun angle to windows and other sun control devices. The book's bonus is its collection of photographs of sun control techniques from pueblos to the present." ENGINEERING NEWS-RECORD
"In addition to passive solar applications, designers of active systems should find the book useful for collector orientation." SOLAR ENERGY DIGEST
"Orientation, shadow casting, shadow mapping, and how to make a solar site analysis are explained and illustrated." DESIGN NEWS
